About Somerset Winery
Somerset Vineyard and Winery delivers exceptional hand-crafted wines from its 14 acre vineyard in Temecula Valley, California. We produce sustainably farmed varietals from Southern France as well as select regions in Spain. The estate includes a warm and inviting Tasting Room, complemented by grounds reminiscent of a beautiful garden, all enveloped by acres of well-developed grape vines.
Somerset is a popular stop along the De Portola Wine Trail, where the owners often give personal tours of their production room, and guests are provided a friendly wine tasting experience that is both relaxed and informative.
How Qvevri amphorae came to somerset
Somerset’s President and Co-Owner, Kurt Tiedt, first learned about Terracotta Winemaking on a trip to Italy. Years later, Kurt and David Raffaele, Somerset’s Winemaker, saw a beautiful, Italian-made Amphorae called a Rotunda at a trade show. This was the “lightbulb” moment when they knew they had to acquire the Rotunda and start an Qvevri Amphorae program.
David immediately began experimenting with Syrah grapes. The success of this endeavor inspired Somerset winery to import several more vessels, including two 5,000-pound Opus 17 Drunk Turtles. Presently, Somerset presents a growing selection of Qvevri Amphorae wine varieties.
